Bijou Bibelots and Panoptic Peepers
As P sends the maid packing, we get our first look at the Village control room and the Supervisor. The cut from the cottage to the control room is a nice, slightly tricky one, disorienting for half a second before you catch on. It would’ve been more natural a cut to pull out from the face of P on the big screen, but this version works by adding a little hiccup, another playful little pinch of the viewer.
The first close-up of the Supervisor is a late addition, spliced in from ‘Once Upon A Time’; you can see the back of Leo McKern at one of the ‘fruit machines’ in the background. Somebody obviously realised we needed a good look at him straight away.
